I would not recommend this place to anyone. The service was slow. The employees were very unfriendly and were not courteous. They never smile and act as if you just interrupted them while watching their favorite tv show. I went with a restaurant.com voucher which asks you to tip fairly. When we entered I showed them my voucher and was told that I must tip them 18%. I told them that no where does it say I must tip 18%. Nothing at restaurant.com or at the restaurant says I must tip 18%. We decided to leave and once we reached outside, the waiter followed us and implored us to return and agreed that they could not require us to tip 18%. I tipped him 15%. A week later we returned, ordered our food, and when I got my bill they had added an 18% charge which was not identified as a tip. When I asked what the charge was for I was told by a woman, (who stared at us the whole time we were there and "mean mugged" us) that I must pay the 18% tip. When I told her that no where does it say I am required to pay an 18% tip, she very rudely said she did not care and that if I did not want to pay the 18% tip do not come back. I told her I would report her behavior and she said again she did not care who I told. I am almost 70 years old and have never been treated in such a reprehensible way at any restaurant in any country. Shame on Sakura.

My sister and I decided to try this for lunch one day, as we were in the area and craving sushi. We each ordered a bento box because it was cheap and looked good. I loved the soup and salad, and everything in the bento box was delicious. The crab rangoon appetizer we ordered was amazing. Perfectly crisp and tasty. The service is..... okay. The servers do always seem inconvenienced by you, but my sister and I didn't really care since we came for the food. I will be going back.

Literally the worst restaurant in Kansas City Metro. The service is absolutely terrible, the food is overpriced and if you use their ever running Groupon, the servers act like you're putting them out! I've given them a shot 5 times. The last time was my last time. I actually got into an argument with the staff. I asked them to call the manager and they refused. They said he wasn't in Missouri. I will NEVER go there again.

Groupon keeps tricking me into eating here. It's never been great, but the food and service have reached an all-time low. The last time I went (and I really mean the LAST time I'll ever go) the service was horrible and I'm pretty sure I got food poisoning. Prior to my last visit, I was reading yelp reviews and was laughing about someone who at at Sakura and took charcoal pills once they got home. That seemed so excessive, but I wish that had been an option for me! I was puking/dying for nearly two days. To add insult to injury, my waiter brought my food and then got a plate of noodles and sat and watched tv and ate dinner while we stared at our terrible food. I would have complained but my server was a tad too preoccupied to fix my meal/refill my water/bring me my check/look in our direction. Another employee noticed me staring at my server whilst he slurped his food and brought my check. Bottom line: skip this place. It will be out of business before the end of the year. If you're in lees summit and you want good service and good sushi, go to Mr Sushi or Mint. Unless you like crapping and puking your innards out, then by all means go to Sakura.

AWESOME!!!!!! LOTS OF OPTIONS!!!!! FOOD TASTES GREAT!!!!! I read about Sakura on YELP :) and i immediatley had to try it. My fiance and I and somewhat amatuer Sushi consearues as we have tried every sushi restraunt from Kansas City Mo to Joplin and all around minus a small select few. I would definatley rank Sakura among the good ones for sure i gave it four stars becasue it wasnt the best sushi of my life but very comparable!!!! The sushi we had was all excellent and prepared very nicley. Fish was good not dry and sauces and rice were equally as great. Atmosphere was very clean and nice with a touch of asian class for sure. I want to tell you bring your appetite as the menu is very exstensive and lots of options!!! Which i like!!! They even have Bobba Tea which i never seen at any sushi/asian restaraunt in the area. The area the restaraunt is in is still under construction as some of the other reviewers mention but not far from the beaten path at all. Service was a little on the quiet side.... but good and kept my water filled at all times it seemed. I will definatley be back to Sakura lots and lots

Don't bother. The sushi was so unfresh, I went home and took active charcoal pills as "insurance" to avoid food poisoning. Also, the service is terrible. They told us we could each use our groupon when i made a reservation but when the bill arrived we were told we could only use one. I won't be back.

Decent sushi at decent prices, but nothing spectacular. The Gold Point roll is awesome! The most annoying thing about this place is that they ALWAYS seat everyone right next to other parties, despite having a wide-open restaurant.

The mood of the wait staff is short and abrupt. They don't make you feel very welcome. HOWEVER. The sushi is DELICIOUS! Very well made. Eel sauce comes on the side. Wife and I got Spicy Tuna Roll Spider Web Roll (Spider Roll) Dynamite Roll The spicy sauce is good quality and the portions are fair for the price. Don't go in here expecting a polite and friendly staff, but the food is worth it.

I will no longer return to this restaurant after my recent experience. Service was never great, but food was ok, a decent price, and close to home. Tonight I ordered my usual sushi box, to find it no longer includes soup and salad (same dish have ordered multiple time with soup/salad). There goes the bargain... When my sushi arrived the fish was paper thin. I could see the rice laying under the fish My husbands dish was the same. For us it was three strikes. Poor service, poor food, and poor price. We will not be going back.

The service is not the greatest, but the atmosphere is nice. I had an expired Groupon that was worth $10 instead of the original $20. The sever was very confused & argued w/ me. I showed her the fine print & she snatched my iPhone & redeemed the Groupon. Rude!

I know it seems like I have been rating everything 5 stars lately but that is because I have been on a lucky streak. If you read all of my reviews you will see that I have no hesitation to dish out a one star review if it is deserved. Three of us had a really good time at Sakura. We started out with the Fried Pork Dumplings appetizer for $4.95 and each had two delicious dumplings (hot and fresh) to go with our Miso Soup which was a perfect combination. We all ordered Bento Boxes for $7.95 each. I had the Shrimp Tempura, my father had the Crab Tempura and my mother had the Beef Teriyaki. Each Bento Box meal included soup, salad, avocado rolls, steamed rice, sliced ginger and wasabi. Everyone loved their food and had fun with the the whole bento box concept. My mother could not finish all of hers. We had a restaurant .com certificate that was good for $15.00. Our total bill including automatic 18% gratuity was under $30.00 - the service was excellent. I left extra on top of the automatic gratuity because we were so pleased with service and food. We were able to park very close. The interior was very nice with a peaceful atmosphere. We went to one of our favorite spots around the corner for desert - Yogurtini - but that is a another review. By the way, Sakura also offers Chinese food lunch specials for under $7.00 which include rice and soup. They have a lot of selection on their menu.

Thanks, but no thanks. I just dropped 18 bucks for an order to go at Sakura Sushi. I ordered their Sushi lunch box and a vegetable/shrimp tempura appetizer. The order came out timely by the sushi chef all packaged and stapled. I asked the cashier/hostess if there was soy sauce in there and she told me there was. When I get back to my desk at work to eat, no soy sauce! Sushi w/o soy sauce is like a pancake w/o syrup. Ruined my lunch pretty much and I couldn't go back. I called to complain and she said "sorry". I told her I couldn't come back to get soy sauce as I was at work and she said, "Maybe next time you come by, I give you soy sauce". Yeah, right. What about a free meal since this one was ruined? The food was mediocre. I much prefer Siki across the street. I'll never come back here. Small portion sizes, too. Oh and the house dressing for their salad is VERY undesireable. Siki's rocks.

Returned to Sakura to see what lunch was all about, simply because I was already in Summit Fair and there are almost no other good options. I ordered a Bento box for $7.95 that included Tonkatsu with soup, salad, rice, and a California roll. Considering one of my lunch options where I work in Leawood has the same thing (except I believe it's soup OR salad) for $14, this was a steal. And the Tonkatsu and its sauce were really tasty. I was also brave enough to try more sushi again, and was a bit redeemed. The sushi chefs were kind enough to add rice to their rolls to give it a little more heft and flavor, and the seaweed was not chewy and miserable as it was last time. But still, none of the flavors really popped and I couldn't find a really fresh element, even in the vegetables. Not to say any of this food was out of this world. Some of it was just plain mediocre, and some of it was slightly above par. But for the value and the atmosphere and, well, the lack of anything else worth eating in that shopping area, it doesn't seem like that bad of an option.

We came here shortly after it opened when a friend said it was the best sushi in town...it's not, in case you were wondering. We thought it was overpriced and had little taste. The waitresses seemed irritated that we were there and at the end of our meal we were conflicted about how much to tip because everything we asked for, including ordering, seemed to be an inconvenience to her! Although we only tried a few rolls, they weren't that out of the ordinary (spicy tuna, etc.) and shouldn't be that hard to make flavorful. I know we won't be back.

Lees summit finally has a tasty, clean, amazing sushi! The rest of the sushi establishments in lees summit are a joke and just look plain dirty! Sakura is a welcome fresh wind of air in this suburb. Hey it's not Chicago but we should be able to get quality sushi- even in a KC suburb ! Portions are perfect with supporting visual presentation. The only downside is the new shopping area is barely occupied- needs to gain traction so you can eat and shop in style - but it is getting there. Service was above average but not stellar- that is ok if the sushi stays this amazing!

I was very excited when this place opened because I love sushi and work just down the street. They have a great lunch deal for 3 rolls, miso soup and a salad. I got Tuna, Salmon and Eel Q(cucumber). Miso soup was average. Salad was ok. The sushi was terrible. The eel was bland, chewy and tasteless. The salmon and tuna were fishy and not in a good way. This is why people who have never had good sushi think sushi is terrible, I thought it was terrible and I like sushi. I get better flavor from the tuna rolls I buy at Target. Sooo disappointing. I have no idea about their chinese food, it may be better. I got my food to go and it was ready 10 minutes after I called, so that's good. I might still try their other food, but I'll skip the sushi.

Living in Lees Summit we have been to the is resturant many times and every time we promise ourselves never to return. But the convience of it being in Summit Fair shpping center, which lacks in resturants within walking distance of the shops, keeps us giving it one more try. It never fails that they over charge for everything we order and constantly must negotiate the bill. The food is mediocre and the portion size is minimal. Save yourself the disappointment and go to Siki. It's worth the less than minute drive. Thomas almost always provides a little extra for free.

I dont understand the overall 3 star review for this place. We have visited Sakura many times and have tried both the sushi and the non-sushi menu items. We really like this place. It also works for us because we have 2 sushi lovers and 2 non-sushi lovers in our family, so both sides are able to order items that they truly enjoy. We have yet to be disappointed. The atmosphere/ decor are also like-able .

This place just opened up in the heart of the still-under-development Summit Fair shopping area. Suffice to say, beyond grabbing some food here, there really isn't anything else to do unless you want to hit up Macy's or something... right? Blame the economy, but Summit Fair is just one big concrete paperweight for now. The food. It's basically your mix of Japanese and Chinese items. Popular standbys like your Chicken Teriyaki, Sweet and Sour (enter your choice of meat here), and your garden variety sushi and sashimi. Near the end of their menu were some Thai dishes as well, but all their menus had "Out of Stock" stickered in that department. Their Japanese selection was actually a bit surprising. They actually served donburi and yakitori. As far back as I can remember, the last time I saw either in a menu was... well, hell - I can't remember. Maybe at Mitsuwa back in Chicago... god I miss Mitsuwa. Ahem. So, I have to give this place huge props for serving something other than what you may be accustomed to ordering at a Japanese/Chinese joint. Their individual sushi was slightly disappointing in quantity. I ordered some Octopus/Tako (of course), and the rice serving was like a miniature prop piece looking jimmagajigger. I couldn't help but laugh a little. Their spicy tuna roll? For some reason, there was always a light crunch to it. At first I thought it was a sesame seed or something, but it very closely resembled an unagi tempura roll. I don't know what the hell was going on there, but it was actually a good surprise to my mouth. My partner in crime ordered her Chicken Teriyaki, and man did it come to our table moving. Literally. Served fresh off the fire, it was sizzling and jumpin' around like no one's business. The serving was excellent, and the sauce was just around that perfect medium; not too light, and not too heavy. Their vegetable tempura was very good. Not too heavy on the deep fry, and the sauce nicely complemented it. The interior decor definitely was hardcore Chinese, but also very nice. Not gaudy either. It looked like P.F. Chang without trying so hard to be asian. I've actually been to some joints in China that looked like this, so it was definitely a plus in my book. I overheard the folks in the kitchen with their Cantonese and Mandarin lingo, so you should know you're in safe and "authentic" hands. They just opened up, and if you were lucky enough or should I say, paid attention to your junk mail, you'll find their menu with a 10% off coupon which lasts 'til 3/31. I strongly suggest you give this place a go. There are already some well established asian restaurants in the area (Mr. Sushi, Siki's, and another few off of 291 I haven't been to yet), but they seem to emphasize on that whole steakhouse-chef with stupid gags and jokes- pitch going for them. Not here. With family, friends, or even a date - I'd definitely recommend this place.

First off the decor was great, everything else was horrible! Employees were unfriendly and lethargic, the food was bland, and most importantly the beer was WARM! I would recommend spending your money somewhere else.

I've ate here several times. I kept trying it again, hoping it'd be better. The decor and ambiance is great, but the sushi is not. I will not eat here again. Siki is close by and their sushi is 1,000 times better.

I have never considered myself a sushi lover, and never eat anything raw, but was talked into giving this restaurant a try by someone who enjoyed it. I am so glad I did. I stuck to my no raw sushi rule, and we ordered the Seaweed Salad, Kani Salad, Fried Calamari, California Roll, and Rock-n-Roll. Everything was delicious. The Seaweed Salad was a beautiful emerald green, crunchy and refreshing. It's tossed in what appeared to be a light Asian flavored dressing (slightly vinegary) and served atop a bed of English cucumber. I will have this every time I go. The Kani (Crab meat) Salad, which is also served atop a bed of cucumber, was a little bland for my taste, but my lunch companion was crazy about it. I added a touch of the sweet chili sauce that came with the Calamari to mine, and the extra kick it provided was just what it needed. The Calamari was tempura battered, which made it light and crispy; a new taste in calamari for me, and one that I loved. The California Roll was comparable to others I had tried before in other Asian restaurants. Nothing to rave about, but nothing to complain about either. The star of the meal for me was the Rock-n-Roll!!! A fully cooked sushi roll, which consists of two extra crunchy, panko coasted shrimp tempura, avocado, and snow crab with masago. It came beautifully presented and drizzled with what I assume was eel sauce. I swear it is the most delicious thing I have ever eaten. If I understand the meaning of the word "umami" (the sixth sense that the Japanese equate with earthiness and savoriness), then this dish fit the bill. I am almost ashamed to admit that in the first two weeks after trying it for the first time, I have eaten there six times, and plan to eat there as often as possible. Do yourself a favor and give it a try!!

Went there for lunch with my daughter since we had a Groupon. We ordered rolls that were all on the lunch menu. The rolls were rather small but tasted ok. When we got our bill they had rung the rolls up seperately from the regular menu instead of the lunch special. When I questioned the waitress (who was unsmiling and seemed bored) she told me I should have specified I wanted the lunch special. I thought being there at 2 in the afternoon and ordering only things listed on the special menu were hint enough. She wouldn't change the prices and told me next time to be sure and tell her I was ordering from the lunch menu. I told her there wouldn't be a next time!

The decor was great, after that is goes down hill. The waitress was very rude and slow. The food was okay (when we got it), but due to the fact the service was bad I will never be back.

Moved to Lee Summit in Oct and have tried every sushi and chinese place around. Had general chicken and sesame chicken the first visit and they were very good- not the best chinese we've had but the absolute best in the Lee Summit area. Had sushi the next time and it was great. We were pleasantly surprises - especially after the chinese food, we expected a mediocre experience. Fish was fresh, we ordered based on a few server recommendations and liked everything we got. Reasonable priced, clean and nice atmosphere. We will definitely go back and we would highly recommend this place.
